NLP. I went to my first NLP class with a mate and didn’t really know what it was about but the change to my life was profound far greater than my being a member of a Sufi cult and attending countless self help gurus ,desperately tried to change my limiting believes.
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming and this was devised by 2 visionaries…Richard Bandler a master of mathematics and computer science and John Grinder a professor of linguistics to cut a long story very short these two gentleman modelled some of the greatest communicators of our time, namely Viriginia Satir (family therapy) Fritz Perls (Gestalt therapy) and Milton H Erickson (Clinical Hypnotherapist) the othgewr lum9inairies whose works and learning were also encompassed were Alfred Korzybski, Noam Chomsky Gregory Bateson and Paul Watzlawick now if these names don’t mean anything to you don’t worry just rest assured that NLP’s roots were deeply entrenched within Therapy or therapeutic foundations (which ever sounds better)
More renowned “experts” on NLP are Anthony Robbins (billionaire Life style coach) who after attending several seminars came up with NAC (Neuro Associative conditioning) went on to earn a fortune and help a few people in the process and my favourite Jordan Belfort (Leonardo Di Caprio made a film of his life in “The wolf of Wall street” again these two gentleman are testament that going to a NLP seminar to learn and apply the techniques is one of the quickest routes to gaining success.
Most, will go to an NLP seminar and never apply the teachings.
One name that is forgotten and seldom mentioned is that of the late great Frank Farrelley (Provocative Therapy) who I believe was influential on Richard Bandler. I was blessed enough to visit Frank on a few seminars when he visited the UK and of all the above mentioned Frank had a profound and deep impact upon me.
So that’s a very brief history of NLP if you want to learn more, google it… I will be discussing further techniques in upcoming blogs..
